wedding invitations

Wedding planning is hard, guys. I've been putting off ordering invitations for a variety of reasons, and now (to save a load of cash), I've decided that - damn it - I'm going to design them myself. I have Adobe Illustrator, but have never used it to design anything before, so I'm getting a crash course in self-teaching.

I've gone through a couple designs and this is what I've landed on....for now. I wanted to incorporate watercolor in some way, while saving money by using a white background. We'll see how they turn out when printed!

bridal bash!

Here are a couple photos from my wedding shower yesterday; it was such a blast! My aunt and cousin hosted a brunch complete with mimosa's yesterday for my closest friends and family. I'll post more pictures of the decor tomorrow. They had some super cute details that I can't wait to share!

Oh, and I love my dress that I found at Anthropologie, find it here.

Products I love

I've been growing my hair out for years now, and in that time I've struggled with split ends, flat roots, and a dry scalp from too much shampooing and blow-drying. In a attempt to combat these issues, I've amassed an embarrassing amount of hair products. After years of trial and error (and many purchases and returns), I finally have my all-star product line up - all perfect for us ladies who dream of a long, pretty mane without the price tag of extensions.

1. Redken Extreme Shampoo & Conditioner / 2. Pureology Strength Cure Split End Salve / 3. Tigi Bed Head Spoil Me / 4. batitse Dry Shampoo (cherry scent) / 5. Pureology Zero Dulling Hairspray / 6. Ghd 1" Straightener

less is more skin care

Unless you happen to live in a tropical paradise (in which case I am perpetually jealous of you), you probably experienced the same bitter winter that I did this year. Pair the negative temperatures with the fact that I was turning 30 in a few months, and I was a woman seeking some serious skin care advice beyond just washing my makeup off before bed every night. Luckily working in healthcare gives me access to a variety of medical experts, and I was able to pick the brain of our skin care specialist. She told me that for a easy, but super effective routine, I would only need 3 things.

Sunscreen
I've heard this from our dermatologists too, and since I've hit the big 30, I'm finally heeding their warnings. Even if you have a 9 to 5 office job, sun can still cause damage by sneaking in during your commute to and from work.

I've been using Neutrogena pure & free liquid for the past 4 months and I love it. I put it on before my moisturizer in the morning and it soaks into skin in seconds. And it's actually a pretty fantastic primer if you're going to wear foundation.

Vitamin C Serum or Lotion
The basic gist is that Vitamin C works to preserve the skin while doing all kinds of other glorious things to your skin including evening skin tone, diminishing dark spots and increasing firmness.

Obagi has a Vitamin C serum that comes in three strengths. Other than the fact that my fiance never fails to comment on my orange-y scent, I love everything about this product.  Sense I have sensitive skin, I started at 10%.

Retin-A
UGHHHHH. I could just kick myself for not keeping my tretinoin prescription from a few years ago. This lovely stuff literally pushes out the gross stuff under the skin's surface, making way for new skin cells. You can find products containing Retin-A at the drug store or beauty shops like Sephora and Ulta.

My skin care specialist recommended one by ZO, which I will be checking out after I pay off some wedding expenses.

Photos From Our Engagement Session

Our photographer did a fantastic job on our engagement photos, which were taken in beautiful Eden Park and our home. Looking back, horizontal stripes weren't the best idea, but luckily my wedding dress is stripe-free.

Habits

For some reason this morning, I got to thinking about my habits. Which ones are good, which ones are bad, and which ones keep me simply functioning for better or worse. As I try to declutter my home, my mind and my life, I have come to 100% believe that habits define us and I'll be a happier, less-insane person if I can use my good habits to trump the bad.

When I first starting thinking of my habits, only the bad came to mind. Here are some of the things I do subconsciously that drive me nuts.

  • I'm a big, fat nail biter
  • Three words: Shaky leg syndrome
  • Grande Skim Lattes
  • Aimlessly scrolling through Facebook/Twitter/Instagram with zero purpose. I become a smart phone zombie.
  • Propping my phone up on the sink to watch Netflix or Hulu while I'm getting ready to the morning. This makes me move A LOT slower in the morning AND I risk my phone falling off the sink and smashing into a million pieces
  • Piles of Paper. If there is one thing I hate at work, it's the piles of paper that always pile up my desk. If I could re-wire my brain to do ONE THING, it would be to be file papers when I get them, because piles suck and make me cranky.
  • Inconsistent blogging. Self-explanatory.
So the good news is that I don't have any habits that need an intervention or a financial counselor to address. Over the past year or so, I've developed some good habits that I don't even think about and I've found them more helpful the crazier my life becomes with wedding planning and a hectic job.
  • Eating breakfast everyday - that isn't sugary cereal. I eat a chicken sausage and a smoothie made of banana, blueberry, chai seeds, almond butter and almond milk, every single day.
  • Taking off my makeup and using a Vitamin C moisturizer every day and night.
  • And on the subject of skin - SUNSCREEN! I have a wrinkle phobia like every other woman in America, so I apply SFP 50 before my makeup every morning.
  • Only taking off my engagement ring at night and using a ring holder. Did you that when you put things in the same place everyday, they are actually there when you go look for them? MIND BLOWN.
  • Electronic Billing. I finally set this up for every bill I have to pay. My credit will thank me one day.
So here's to good habits (as I drink my after-work glass of wine). May you, and I, have more good than bad.
